There’s an axiom in recreational skiing that those who are active in the sport can always find a way to avoid paying the listed daily rate for a lift ticket. Aware of this consumer practice, ski resorts and lodging facilities compete for those kinds of shoppers with a myriad of bargains. Here are some of those best deals available in the Northeast this ski season:

MAINE


Mt. Abram:

MASSACHUSETTS


Berkshire East:
Family nights are Saturdays, Jan. 7 through early March: three ski for $39, four for $49, five for $59 etc.

Jiminy Peak:
Midweek Escape includes two days of skiing and two nights of lodging in a one-bedroom suite for two people, valid Monday-Thursday nights, non-holiday, $179 per person, double occupancy. (Not valid Dec. 22 to Jan. 1, 2007; Jan. 15, Feb. 18 to 23.)

Ski Butternut:
Lift tickets cost $15 every Monday-Thursday for everyone all season long (excluding holidays). Midweek Ski & Stay Package, Sunday-Thursday at 18 participating lodging establishments, $45 a day per person double occupancy, two night stay. Weekend packages save up to $10 per lift ticket.

Wachusett:
Ski any night for $39; three-day "3-Peat" Card $99.

NEW HAMPSHIRE

Attitash:
Guests save an additional 10 percent off multi-day ticket rates when they order online two days in advance. With the Edge Card, skiers can earn a free lift ticket with each six lift tickets purchased. Accumulated days are carried over for three years. With the mEticketcq, skiers and riders save on 6-12 days of skiing and riding at any American Skiing Co. resort.

Black Mountain, NH:

Bretton Woods:
With the Family Ticket, parents sharing baby sitting duties can buy two tickets with the same bar code so that either adult can share in the skiing, without the added cost of buying two adult lift tickets.
Midweek Ski & Stay Package: Stay Sunday through Thursday nights and receive a Mount Washington valley multi-mountain lift ticket each day. Packages start at $189, including breakfast and dinner at The Mount Washington Hotel; at $109 for The Bretton Arms Country Inn, including full breakfast; and from $79 for The Lodge at Bretton Woods, including continental breakfast. Participating alpine areas include Bretton Woods, Attitash, Black, Cranmore, King Pine, Shawnee Peak and Wildcat. With the Add-a-Day option, customers who buy a single day lift ticket can save up to 30 percent off the next day’s lift ticket. This option joins the After 2 Tomorrow Too, where skiers and riders may purchase a lift ticket or rental package after 2 p.m. and get all that day and the following day for a single day’s rate.

Gunstock:

Loon Mountain:
The Threedom Pass for adult, college, teen and youth categories provides a one-day lift ticket to ski or ride Loon Mountain, Waterville Valley and Cranmore Mountain Resort. Threedom Pass holders also receive $10 off lift tickets during blackout periods, lodging discounts and deals at area retailers. Gift Cards are accepted at any Booth Creek resort and can be used any day of the season to purchase tickets, lessons, rentals and season passes. Also available are Food and Beverage discount cards.

Tenney:

The Balsams:
From Sunday to Thursday during January, guests can ski free when purchasing the lodging package at $79 a night. Includes lodging, breakfast in the dining room, lift tickets to the alpine ski area, and trail passes for cross-country skiing.

Waterville Valley:
Save $10 on daily lift tickets purchased in advance online at www.waterville.com. No black-out dates. Two-for-one tickets on Mondays and Fridays all season beginning Jan. 5, excluding holidays. Waterville Valley 40th Ultimate Birthday Season Specials: Two ski on Tuesdays for $40 (available online).

Wildcat:

NEW YORK

Belleayre:
The Belleayre Region Lodging & Tourism Assn. acts as a central reservation system for local lodging (800-431-4555) and offers ski free/stay free packages. Skier Appreciation Days, Dec. 15, Jan. 12, Feb. 16, March 9 & April 13, lift tickets cost $15. Winter Festival Week, Jan. 22-26, lift tickets cost $10. Bring an active ski club card and photo ID any day of the season and get $10 off a full day rack price. Your ski club must be recognized by Belleayre Mountain.

Catamount:
Lift tickets are $15 Monday through Thursday, except holidays. Learn to Ski/Ride Package $65 (lift, lesson & rental).

Gore Mountain:
Several resorts, hotels and country inns have ski & stay packages: www.visitlakegeorge.com. Wonderful Winter Weekend packages start at $190 for a Friday and Saturday night lodging, and skiing Saturday and Sunday.

Discounted ski and stay packages are detailed online at http://goremountain.com/packages.  Get the third night of lodging and the third day of skiing free midweek, non-holiday, or select from 40 percent off vacations during early January.

With the 2006/2007 Student Card, costing $59, teens ages 13-19 and college students with 12 or more credits can ski free on the first visit, with all additional visits $35 any day after at both Gore and Whiteface.

Hunter Mountain:
Ladies Day Wednesday, $50 package consists of lift ticket, equipment rental, group lesson and lunch, for females over age 7. Through March, except Dec 27.
With the Big Lift Card, costing $49, discounts of $20 off every midweek ticket, $14 off every weekend/holiday ticket. Tickets on Tuesdays, except Dec. 26, cost $25.
The Beginner Try-Pak costs $99 and includes three separate visits to be used any time during the season with a lower mountain lift ticket, equipment rental and group lesson.
Bring a Beginner: With a friend or relative purchasing a $99 Try-Pak or $69 Single-Pak, you can receive a free lift ticket for the same day (Mon.-Fri., non-holiday).

Ski Plattekill:
Several inns and motels have ski & stay packages. Call (607) 326-3500. Lift tickets are $10 to the first 100 skiers on Jan. 6, Feb. 10 & March 3. All skiers pay $10 on Jan. 23 & 27. Carload Day is Feb. 17; Car with 2-3 persons, each pays $20; 4-5 each $15, and six or more $12.50.

Titus Mountain:
These inns and motels have ski & stay packages:

West Mountain:

Windham:
Ski and ride package at the Winwood Inn, $50 per person, double occupancy; includes lift ticket, accommodations, continental breakfast and shuttle to the mountain. Not available holidays. (518) 734-3000.

VERMONT

Ascutney:
The following special days with lift ticket bargains are valid during non-holiday weeks:
Ladies Mondays: Allows full day of skiing and a day pass to the Fitness Center for $39 for women, plus half-price day care.
Two for Tuesdays: Two lift tickets for the price of one.
Boardroom Wednesdays: Riders’ all-day lift tickets are $29.
Tele Thursdays: Telemark skiers ski all day on Thursdays for $29. College Fridays: $25 lift tickets for college students with a valid college identification. The Ascutney web site at www.ascutney.com offers internet-only deals as well as special “deal” e-mails.
Midweek Getaway Packages are available any midweek period (non-holiday) all season, Sunday – Friday. Getaways include slopeside lodging in a condominium suite, lift tickets, resort amenities, and group lessons. Available for one or more nights from $89/person/night.

Bolton Valley Resort:
Ski or Ride Dec. 18-22 for $9 a day. Women's Programs Mondays-Tuesdays, with special rates, group lessons and day care. Night Skiing & Riding: 12 trails and 4 lifts Wednesday-Saturday all season and every night during holiday periods.

Bromley:
Midweek lift tickets are $25 for adults, teens, juniors, seniors & super seniors. Family Fridays: Up to three kids ski for $10 each with one paying adult, on Dec. 1, 8, 15 & 22, Jan. 5, 19 & 26, March 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, April 6 & 13. Burke Mountain Ski Area:

Jay Peak:

Killington Resort:

New for this year, the New England Value Card allows you to save by purchasing from four to five days of skiing/riding in advance. Days do not have to be consecutive and can be used at six American Ski Co. resorts including Killington, Mount Snow, Sunday River, Sugarloaf/USA, Pico and Attitash, providing prices with an average of $61 a day for an adult for four or five days.

Mad River Glen:
The Mad Card at $119 is transferable, allowing three days of skiing for under $39 per day. Lift tickets are $29 midweek/non-holiday (limit of one per Mad Card/Day) $5 off additional weekend/holiday regularly priced ticket (limit of one per Mad Card/Day). Ten percent off ski school clinics, rentals and demos. Sold only until December 15. Ski for $29 midweek when you present any valid season pass from any other ski area. College students ski every midweek day for $29. January White Sale allows you to ski for $29 Monday – Friday in January. AARP members ski for $29 Monday through Friday. Seniors 70 and older ski free.

Mt. Snow Resort:

Buy two-day lift tickets for Dec. 23 & 24, get a free ticket on Dec. 25. Includes family fun, character events with Sponge Bob and Dora the Explorer and a family concert by Hot Peas ‘N Butter. Okemo Mountain Resort:
Special deals are available online at okemo.com. The First hour of lift operation is free so skiers and riders can test snow conditions before buying a lift ticket. Valid midweek, non-holiday from 9 until 10 a.m., and on weekends and holiday periods from 8 to 9 a.m.
Active duty U.S. military personnel receive 50 percent off full-day lift tickets, Monday through Friday, non-holiday; and $10 off full-day lift tickets, weekends and holidays. U.S. military, fire, police and ambulance personnel ski for half price every Tuesday and Thursday during January.
On Tuesdays Ladies Days, ski for $39, group lesson $25: Dec. 5, 12 & 19, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, March 6, 13, 20 & 27.
The Okemo Flex Card offers a variety of discounts, including 25 percent off weekend and holiday single day lift tickets, 50 percent on weekday, non-holidays. Also save $10 on a Group Lesson or Adventure Clinic, $10 on a Ski Demo at the Okemo Snow Sports Shop, and $10 on High-Performance Ski Rental Package (skis, boots, poles) at the Okemo Express Rental Shop.
The Okemo 8-Pack, which allows eight days of skiing for the price of seven is valid every day and is transferable. The cost for adults is $504; young adults/seniors $427; juniors/super seniors $329. The Okemo 8-Pack is a pre-purchase of eight unrestricted, single, full-day lift tickets for the price of seven. The 8-Pack is valid every day of the season, with no restrictions and it is transferable between family and friends. It may be used toward the purchase of one or two tickets per day. Same rules apply to the Okemo 12-Pack, which offers 12 days for the price of ten.

Pico Mountain at Killington:
At $49 per day midweek, skiers receive lift ticket, equipment rental, Perfect Turn lesson, and lunch voucher.
With the $20 purchase of the Pico Card, adults ski or ride for $29 every day excluding holidays; juniors, young adults and seniors pay $19 per day. The card includes a 50 percent discount on a one-day visit to the Pico Sports Center or 25 percent off a monthly membership.
Receive a free afternoon adult group lesson when you purchase a three-day (or longer) adult lift ticket.
Kids ages 12 and younger ski and ride free the same number of days as their parents when parents pre-purchase prior to arrival a five-day or more lift ticket through eTICKETScq or by booking a package, holidays excluded. One free child per paid parent.
